Poker tilt II

September 22nd, 2008

When a player finds himself in the precarious situation as being on tilt, the most common reasons of his being in such a condition is either he has been on the losing spree or when he has been a victim of bad beat or when the defeat he has experienced has been extremely crushing or humiliating. Other situations when one can end up on tilt are when one finds that he has folded his hand in a large bet against an opponent who had been bluffing with a really weak hand or when he finds himself being tricked by a post oak bluff bet. If his opponent has received a fantastic card very late in play by drawing an extremely unlikely out and caused him being ‘sucked out’ or when he has been unexpectedly beaten by a stronger hand while he thought his own hand particularly strong can also result in a player being on tilt. Alternately, a player may be on tilt if he is pitted against an over-aggressive player who typically plays for every pot and finds himself beaten by the player’s high hand that he has not being expecting or when he loses at showdown after going all-in with a very strong hand in pre-flop round.

While any one of these situations can cause imbalance in a player’s mental composure, a combination of these situations can most definitely put him on tilt and render him unfit to play optimally and judiciously in subsequent games. A very common reason for a player to go on tilt if an opponent’s attitude or behavior annoys and affects the player by getting on his nerves either due to that player’s unwarranted rudeness, drunkenness or frequent and/or deliberate mistakes in observance of common playing etiquette. It is extremely important for poker players to keep their cool in these situations so as to overcome the tilt condition and play prudently.
