Poker stripped deck I
In poker games the cards are always taken from a standard deck of 52. Sometimes, however a situation arises when the cards used in the poker game is taken from a deck from which some other cards have already been removed and hence it is no longer a standard deck. In this case, the card deck is termed as a stripped deck. It is used in playing certain poker game variations. Generally the cards that are removed from the stripped deck are the low value cards.
The poker game of Manila played with the Australian variation is one such game that makes use of stripped deck. This particular game is not played with the standard deck of 52 cards and the rule of gameplay requires only a card deck consisting of 32 cards. So, all cards below the value of 7 are removed from the deck and discarded. So in this game there are no 6, 5, 4, 3, or 2 cards in play, that is, 20 cards have been stripped from a standard cad deck.
Another poker game variant that uses stripped deck in its gameplay is the Mexican stud poker game where all the four suits of 8, 9 and 10 cards are removed from the deck and with the remaining 40 cards in play and a joker card being added the game progresses.
Playing poker games with stripped deck instead of a standard deck requires certain adjustment to the poker playing rules, called by the absence of certain cards. This has led to a modification of hand values in both the Australian game of Manila and the Mexican stud poker game. So now a player holding a flush hand has a better rank than a player holding a full house since lesser number of cards in each suits being available in the game, a flush hand becomes more difficult to form and hence regarded superior.
